Felicia J. Boyd is a partner with Barnes & Thornburg LLP in the firm’s Minneapolis office, where she is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. Ms. Boyd focuses her practice on complex intellectual property litigation and has led plaintiff and defense litigation on a large variety of claims related to patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade dress.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Ms. Boyd practiced with Faegre & Benson LLP in Minneapolis. Her litigation experience spans several industries, including medical devices, software, music, pharmaceuticals, and manufactured goods. Her victories on behalf of clients have included preliminary injunction motions, summary judgment motions, favorable settlements, and jury verdicts at trial. She is a registered patent attorney with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and has represented clients in contested proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Ms. Boyd has played a leading role in large patent infringement matters for several clients. As a result, she has had significant experience in complex case management; coordination of global discovery efforts; design and implementation of litigation strategy; investigation of underlying disputed issues; the selection and development of all experts, and Markman strategy, briefing and argument.

Ms. Boyd received her B.A. cum laude from St. Olaf College in 1984. She earned her J.D. magna cum laude in 1987 from The University of Minnesota Law School.

Ms. Boyd is a frequent lecturer and is actively involved in number of professional and civic organizations. She was appointed to the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board in 2004, serving as vice chair in 2006 and chair of the board in 2007. From 2007-2008, she served on the Advisory Committee on Rules of the Board on Judicial Standards. Ms. Boyd is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the International Trademark Association, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, and the Intellectual Property Owners Association. Additionally, she is a former editorial board member of The Bulletin and The Trademark Reporter, both publications of the International Trademark Association.

Ms. Boyd was included in The Best Lawyers in America in 2010-2013 in the field of intellectual property law, and in Who’s Who Legal for her trademark practice. In 2004 she was awarded the John C. Benson Pro Bono Award, and she was named a “Woman to Watch” by the Twin Cities Business Journal in 2002.

She is admitted to practice in the state of Minnesota, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the USPTO.
